"Everyone crafts a self-directed life doing the things they love to do."
Barb Lundgren
How that differs from the 'norm': we're coerced and manipulated from an early age to see the things we love to do as aberrant, self-indulgent, not of any economic or intrinsic value, or worse, as evil and wrong. And on top of that we're persuaded not to trust our instincts or our growing knowledge, experience, wisdom and that we need to rely on others because we're learners...
Give a kid a chance. Trust in natural learning.
It works. It always has.
Give Unschooling a Try!
Do you want to simplify your home education curriculum? Save time 'teaching' your children every day? Are you tired of grumpy kids who won't complete lessons on time and take forever to learn anything?
Take advantage of the natural way to learn - the way your kids mastered the most difficult lessons in life during their firts three years...
It's easy. It's simple. AND you've already MASTERED the technique!
You'll already know from my Homeschool Australia website that I honestly believe that you do not need any special educational qualifications to teach your children at home. And that the only qualification you need is LOVE for your children. Do you qualify? Yes!
The most important difference between the classroom your children left behind and your wonderful home learning environment is schools don't, and never will, love your children. They can care for them, look after them and teach them, but the essential successful ingredient in home education is love.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - " Love brings success to every learning situation."
From the love you offer your children will come the responsibility, commitment and drive to continuously strive for the best education available for your children. Your life-long dedication to your children's health and happiness will drive you to seek out best and most appropriate resources and to facilitate excellent quality learning opportunities and activities for your children. You, too, will become a life-long, passionate learner!
And that's the key to successful unschooling too. Learning doesn't happen because we want it to. It doesn't happen because we force it to. Learning doesnt' happen because someone else wants us to learn or think we should... Learning happens because it... simply does!
We're learning every moment of every day. Unschoolers and natural learners don't focus on the what, when, how and why of learning. They focus on being in control and taking responsibility for their own learning processes. They are motivated and engaged learners because of this.
Sounds good, doesn't it? Want to know how to jump from 'homeschooling' to 'unschooling'? There's nothing to it really. You don't have to DO anything differently - you just have to start THINKING differently. Unschooling is an attitude.
Over the next few years I aim to grow this site in the same that over the past decade I have grown my Homeschool Australia website. Basically my philosophy of education is the same, although this website will focus on supporting people ready and willing to leave the industrial age paradigm of education far behind! Either which way, you'll find lots of encouragement, support and friendly advice and information on all of my websites (see www.beverleypaine.com/about for a full list).
For a while this site may contain articles also on the Homeschool Australia site - I beg your patience while I sort out my massive archive! Thanks!
Unschooling and learning naturally are empowering! Become personally involved in your children's education. Be there to mark those special learning moments. To share in the delight of discovery. To guide your child through the trials and tribulations of childhood. The excitement, the awe, the anticipation, the wonder.

Home education is a legal alternative to school education in Australia. State and Territory governments are responsible for regulating home education. Different states have different requirements, however home educating families are able to develop curriculum and learning programs to suit the individual needs of their children.

My children were home educated, moving from a school-at-home approach in the first year modeled on kindergarten learning, to unschooling before we embraced life learning as natural learners. My approach to home education is inclusive: people are at various points on their learning journeys and need and want support and acceptance.
My daughter is a stay-at-home working mum of two children and experienced homeschool, unschool, alternative school and high school; my eldest son is 29 and experienced homeschool, unschool, alternative school and part-time high school; my youngest is 25 and was totally unschooled. We're all natural learners.
Robin and I are DIY addicts. :-)
My purpose in life is to inspire others. My unique talents and abilities are empathy and insight and honesty which I use to help others feel confident to open doors in their minds. The universe is an abundant place full of mutually beneficial connections. I choose to focus on these connections rather than the individual elements although the elements are just as important to me. Being of service to others in this way makes my heart sing. Cooperating with and helping others fulfills me.
I am a learner: attending the conference is as much about my personal learning journey as it is yours.
